Community Forum: "How Hackers Hack"

In this high-level technical presentation, Brandon will explore common tools hackers use to break into systems exploring the Social Engineering Toolkit(SET), Metasploit, Armitage, and more. This eye-opening presentation explores the “how” in Cyber Security and ends with a critical discussion on why current cyber security defenses are not enough to ensure the current threat landscape.



Brandon joined Appalachia in 2018 as the Cyber Security Practice Lead. With prior experience in both private and public-sector IT consulting, Brandon has taught cyber security classes for a world leading Cyber Security Bootcamp based out of Chicago, several universities including Harrisburg University and University of Phoenix and is active in the local Cyber Security community founding and chairing the PAHackers Cyber Security group. 

Brandon is co-founder of BSIDES Harrisburg and has presented at numerous security conferences including BSIDES Delaware, Long Island, and Harrisburg. Brandon has a Master’s degree in Cyber Security and Information Assurance from Western Governor’s University and a Bachelor’s of science from Central Penn College in Information Technology along with numerous security related certifications such as EC-Council’s Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), Certified Hacking Forensics Investigator (CHFI), and CompTIA’s PenTest+.
