Community Forum: Data Science from Idea to Impact

03.26.2020 @ 12PM – 1PM
14th Floor Auditorium | Harrisburg University of Science and Technology

Data science is often framed as a technical topic at the intersection of statistics, computer science and data management.  But this narrow framing can result in negative ROI, ineffective solutions, missed opportunities, or societally unacceptable uses of algorithms.  This session will discuss the need for a broader framing of AI to include skills like business strategy, user-centered design, scientific methodology, explainability, ethics, and change management.  Examples will be provided to bring the ideas to life. Ideas from behavioral economics will be discussed from the perspective of bridging the gap between algorithmic output to improved business outcome.

A light lunch will be provided. If your organization’s policy precludes you from accepting lunch at free events, there will be a collection jar. The value of the lunch is $5.
